A SHORT STORY ABOUT HALCYON
Made up of Lead Singer and Bassist; Manav Kher, Lead Guitarist and Backing Vocalist; Charlie Whiteside, Drummer; Luke George and recent addition to their live shows, Guitarist; Valentin Davion, HALCYON has been writing and performing for the best part of 7 years. The band formed while at University together, initially using their music as an outlet for the struggle of poor mental health. In 2020 during the pandemic, the band released their first EP; Nightwalks, which was comprised of songs they wrote based on conversations and ideas they had on late-night walks through a small town in Kent.
Despite the joy of a debut EP, with the band moving away from University and into adulthood, alongside the general collapse of society during the pandemic, HALCYON began to drift apart musically. The band spent almost 2 years away from their instruments, focusing largely on their personal health and wellbeing.
The band came back together in 2021 to write and record their sophomore EP Mid Season Finale, which released in September 2023. They are continuing to perform at shows and write new music, for as long as it stays fun.
ABOUT MID SEASON FINALE
HALCYON return after a 4-year break from the band, with an introspective look at how creating music has helped, hurt, and healed them during a tumultuous time in their early 20s.
The short yet bittersweet trio of tracks on Mid Season Finale, thematically look at creativity in different lights as they manoeuvre through the band’s conflicted and exhausted feelings toward writing music.
The EP makes light of the band's constant battle against perfectionism and how it damaged their mental health and their relationship with music. The EP was written after a particular low point during the band's lull, which, worsened by the pandemic, became a perfect storm for the group's mental well-being.
But out of the storm, came a fire in the shape of 'Don't Go Hollow', 'Burn My Spirit' and 'Keep Warm.’ All three songs sparked a new life in HALCYON, allowing the group to overcome the search for perfectionism and let themselves enjoy the music they made together like they did when they started as confused 19 year olds.
The band also recently introduced guitarist Valentin Davion, who is now a key part of the band’s live shows.
